t3rry's freebies (no responsibility taken)
Just a handful of freebies to get you going if you're new to web design and want something fairly easy to work with. These free webpages have been built so that you get the benefit of css (cascading style sheets) design so that you aren't faced with miles of unitilligible old style html tags. A browse through the page's source will show that the page source is fairly easy to read. Anyway if you stuff up, you can always come back here and download another one.
To create more pages just save the basic template by another name ie: anotherpage.html. NB: depending upon server rules, it is always best to use hyphens or underscores to join words like_this. Best not to use spaces nor uppercase letters in file names when destined to sit on a web server, this includes images.
The "bizzzare" page was made in a fit of madness one night, but nonetheless it sports a JavaScript clock and with css styling it can be relatively easily re-configured, yet perhaps a chalenge for newbies .. try it, might be fun.
The other free webpages have been purpose built to give newbies and those who don't need elaborate pages a chance to get started quickly. (say for hobby sites; easy enough to change the images, if need be, and edit the colours whilst retaining the overall layout).
In the coming months I hope to find time to give upload tutorials, but for now let me say that for practice, if you feel uncomfortable about uploading to a server that you have to pay for, I recommend trying out uploading these pages using the Geocities free webspace and utilise geocities easy upload till you're comfortable with uploading the easy way and then maybe try a free ftp program like Smart FTP or if you have Dreamweaver or another Webpage editor it should have a built in ftp application.
These pages have been tested using Firefox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 6.0, at a screen resolution of 1024 X 768. I can take no responsibility for them not displaying correctly in different browsers or at a different screen resolution (in any browser for that matter, but you can see them working here, so they do work), yet as the main content division in most cases is auto-resizing, I see no reason why they would not display at other resolutions. They are not suitable for display in hand held devices or in mobile phones, although they might work. They contain no spyware nor viruses, but if you're like me, you scan everything that comes into your computer just to be safe.
The current set of freebies (in no special order)...
- Mexico: A trial using negative margins to facilitate one section overlaying the other without using all absolute positioning in css.
- Bizzzare: A bit cheeky but all in fun. This one has a JavaScript clock.
- Corporate: Not totally corporate but made in subdued colors. This fella has a linked contact form page(see Boaddrink.com if you need help setting up the formmail.php).
This WILL NOT work on geocities .. it needs a server running php to complete the formmail.php action. This page has one of Glynis's backgrounds. A bit tricky on the formmail but well worth the effort if you'd like a contact form. NB: If you get this running easily, try downloading Boarddrink's new formamil and use it instead of this one as it supports hidden email contact to hide your email address from spammers. - Maple: This one is my favourite, I like the red of the maple leaves against the black. This template also has a linked ABOUT page (saves you one copy and paste)
- Cloud: A simple to use xhtml and css page (2 pages actually). Uses a cloudy sky as the banner background. Easy to edit.
